DAS was commissioned by a government department to support a study on wireless technology. The purpose of the study was to develop a set of plausible, but extreme, future scenarios for the uptake and deployment of next generation wireless technology, and then to quantify these scenarios.
As part of our work, we designed and delivered a multi-agency workshop to investigate the factors that influence the level of demand for wireless technology. It was attended by senior stakeholders from across the Government. The outputs from the workshop were used to create four credible but extreme potential future scenarios for wireless technology use. We then quantified these scenarios by taking a technology ‘Use Case’ approach. During this, a series of sector specific Use Cases were generated, and the total demand for each use case was calculated.
The scenarios we developed provided certainty and have been used to inform government policy on future wireless connectivity investment.
