Commitment to achieving Net Zero

DAS is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050.

Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

Additional Details relating to the Baseline Emissions calculations.

This is the first year that DAS is submitting a formal Carbon Reduction Plan although we have been informally monitoring our emissions related to business travel since 2019 in order to establish effective data collection processes for the subscopes for which we have the greatest control.

As a services-based organisation which rents managed office space Scopes 1 and 2 are not applicable.

Data for Scope 3 is for commuting and business travel (and overnight stays) sub-scopes. Emissions have been calculated using internal reporting of journey mileages /nights stayed and applicable rates from UK Government data ghg-conversion-factors-2023-full-file-update.xlsx

Upstream transportation and distribution is calculated using an estimate of our energy use across our offices and applicable rates from UK Government data ghg-conversion-factors-2023-full-file- update.xlsx.

It does not include emissions under downstream transportation/distribution nor waste generation. This is because we are a consultancy and manufacture no carbon-generating product.

Emissions reduction targets

In order to continue our progress to achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following carbon reduction targets.

Setting targets as a growing business is challenging. We are continuing to review our target both in terms of absolute figures or on a per capita basis, to ensure progress can be demonstrated over time.

We project that carbon emissions will decrease over the next five years to 84.39 tCO2e by 2029. This is a reduction of just under 10%.

Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives

The following environmental management measures and projects will be implemented and will be in effect when performing the contract.

  • DAS is a ISO14001 certified organisation and we continue to manage and externally audit all operations in line with this certification
  • DAS participates in a certified carbon offsetting scheme. This has run from 2021 when we engaged with Ecologi who provided us with a tailored offset programme. In this reporting year we offset 268.34 tCO2e.
  • Our monitoring of our company travel emissions allowed us to identify this as the major contributor to our emissions. This has led to significant infrastructure investment to implement a new cloud-based finance system to capture the data necessary for consistent and repeatable carbon emission reporting. This has enabled this baseline to be established.

In the future we hope to implement further measures such as:

  • Continued promulgation of the DAS business travel policy to encourage green modes of transport which should be considered when travelling for business. This is balanced with our duty of care and health and safety obligations to our colleagues and will be reviewed and communicated on a quarterly basis.
  • Minimise our impact through continued encouragement of public transport or greener transport options when travelling for business including commuting
  • As our rental agreements come for renewal we will consider office space in central locations to facilitate easy access and commuting by public transport.
  • Employment of staff closer to major clients to reduce miles travelled (where feasible)
  • Whole company meeting will be situated in central locations within short distancesfrom railway stations to facilitate greener travel options.
  • Continued participation in the certified carbon offsetting scheme.

Declaration and Sign Off

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 06/21 and associated guidance and reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans.

Emissions have been reported and recorded in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the GHG Reporting Protocol corporate standard1 and uses the appropriate Government emission conversion factors for greenhouse gas company reporting2.

Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions have been reported in accordance with SECR requirements, and the required subset of Scope 3 emissions have been reported in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard3.

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been reviewed and signed off by the board of directors (or equivalent management body).
