DAS joined fellow system dynamics experts 4Sight Solutions in a US-Navy-funded project to set up and test a Yard-Wide Simulation Platform for in-house use by naval shipbuilders.
The project delivered a strategic digital twin of a naval shipyard, simulating work on 28 hulls from Engineering through four Production work-stages, from 2011-2049. Simulator inputs characterized events and conditions that affected yard work: pandemic, a strike, the generational wave of workforce retirements at US shipbuilders, along with government procurement problems and regular Navy design changes.
The Yard-Wide Simulator independently reproduced monthly work progress and labour-hours expended for each individual hull in each work-stage, with a median error rate of under 4%.
Risk-based analyses also demonstrated significant performance gains from various strategic shipyard investments.
This platform can quickly deliver a yard-wide digital-twin for any naval shipbuilder
